From Hell Announces New Album Heresy Out June 25 via Paper + Plastick; New Song "Unholy" Premieres via Decibel

Detroit-based hardcore metal group From Hell announced today that it will be releasing a new seven-song album, Heresy, via Paper + Plastick Records on June 25. The band has teamed up with Decibel to premiere a new track, titled “Unholy,” which can be streamed and downloaded for free on the website.

Heresy will be available in vinyl and digital formats via Paper + Plastick — it’s available for preorder here. The vinyl pressing is limited to only 650 units on one-sided 12” wax with a silk-screened B-side. The jackets for the release will be hand-screened and the ink used in the screening process was mixed with samples of the band members’ blood.

Less Than Jake Enters The Moathouse in Gainesville, Fla., To Record 10th Full-Length

Less Than Jake has entrenched itself in The Moathouse, the recording studio of vocalist / bassist Roger Lima, to record its tenth full-length release. The new LP is the band’s eighth of all brand-new material and first full-length of all-new material since 2008’s GNV FLA. It’s due out this fall via Fat Wreck Chords.

The group released a short video from the studio on its Facebook page last week.

The band’s reunion with Fat Wreck Chords will provide the first album of new Less Than Jake music on Fat Wreck in over 10 years. The label also put out the compilation LP Greetings and Salutations in 2012, which combined the Greetings From… and Seasons Greetings From… EPs along with two bonus songs. Less Than Jake’s classic Fat Wreck album Borders and Boundaries also saw a release last year.

Paper + Plastick To Release The Sky We Scrape's Divides on Vinyl

Paper + Plastick Records announced today that it will be releasing The Sky We Scrape’s new record, Divides, on vinyl. The record was released digitally by the band on February 19, 2013 but this is the first time it will be coming out on vinyl. The record will come out with a street date of May 14.

The entire record can be streamed right now on The Sky We Scrape’s Bandcamp profile. Additionally, the record can be ordered there digitally for $8. All vinyl orders of the record - it can be ordered here - come with an immediate digital download of the album, plus an extra bonus track titled “Today’s Top Story.”

The Chicago quartet plays a mixture of punk with a more polished hardcore sound. The band’s raw emotion is offset by interesting song structures and instrumentation; their churning, pulverizing guitars are interspersed with moments of tenderness. The Sky We Scrape display inventive songwriting and pay real attention to the soundscapes they create, pounding out three-minute heavy novellas on the concrete walls of their blue-collar hometown.

The pressing is limited to 350 copies on opaque vinyl with haze, and can be preordered in the Paper + Plastick webstore.

Delivering an abrasive, yet anthemic mix of post-hardcore, Chicago quartet The Sky We Scrape have been amongst the city’s busiest bands as of late. Vocalist/guitarist Jason Thompson and crew - guitarist/vocalist Ryan Steele, bassist/vocalist Aaron Boynton and drummer Justin Santora - are looking to capitalize on the buzz garnered from recent split releases with fellow Windy City rockers Hawkbit and Southern California’s Common War (members of Death By Stereo).

Thompson says that the writing process for Divides “started as almost a culmination of our past and current works over the past few years, but through the process of writing, rewriting and recording, its taken on a new direction. A lot of the sounds and layers accomplished on Divides definitely show that our writing has taken on a more mature direction, while still nodding to some of the musical giants on whose shoulders we are standing. We have taken a lot of time in the studio trying to get this album as close to how we want it as possible, and we’re very happy with how its turned out. It’s easy in our genre to fall into the trap of trying to sound just like the next Hot Water Music clone, and as much as I revere that band, I think it’s important to find your own identity as an artist. Light Years Announces Debut Full-Length Details, Streams New Song

Light Years revealed today in an announcement on AbsolutePunk.net that its debut full-length record, I Won’t Hold This Against You, will be coming out on June 18 via Paper + Plastick Records. A brand-new song from the album, titled “Nice To Know You,” is now streaming on AbsolutePunk and is embeddable via SoundCloud. The record is available for preorder on vinyl and digital formats in the Paper + Plastick webstore.

The album will also be available on CD via Black Numbers, on vinyl overseas via Banquet Records, and on CD in Japan via Ice Grills.

The group will be heading out on tour supporting Mixtapes with You Blew It! in June. They’ll also support BoySetsFire in May and just wrapped up a short string of dates with Safe. All tour dates can be seen below.

The Cleveland pop-punk quartet has two EP releases under its belt - the self-released This Will Come Back to Haunt Me (Sept. 2010) and Just Between Us via Escapist Records (April 2012). I Won’t Hold This Against You shows the band coming fully into its sound, and this is evident from Alternative Press’ 4/5 star review of the album, where the magazine dubs it “pop-punk for grown-ups.”

Two songs from I Won’t Hold This Against You have already been released in the form of the Parking Lots EP. A few weeks ago, Light Years released a surprise three-song EP and music video centered around first single “Parking Lots.” Additionally, the EP featured album cut “Put Myself Together” and an acoustic version of that track. Aspiga Releases Music Video for "Welcome To the Sympathy Party"

Aspiga has released a music video for “Welcome To the Sympathy Party,” from its Paper + Plastick Records debut Every Last Piece. The record, which came out in November, is available for purchase in digital and vinyl formats in the label’s webstore.

The music video premiered yesterday via AltPress.com, and can now be streamed and embedded from the P+P YouTube page.

Every Last Piece was the subject of favorable critical reviews upon its release, with ConsequenceOfSound succinctly summing up: “Aspiga is ready to burst.” The website dubbed the record a “stormy album,” continuing by saying, “25 minutes of pressurized self-loathing, dissatisfaction, and machine gun drumming that begs for collapse by the end.”

Sonically, Aspiga’s style retains aspects of the New Jersey sound the band has always been influenced by while infusing bits and pieces of other genres. A member from a band that knows Aspiga well once described the group’s sound as, “If time machines existed so that Jawbreaker could listen to The Weakerthans.” We agree.

When I was tasked with writing a bio for Aspiga, I was in a familiar situation. This is a new band for me, unchartered territory – I knew nothing about them. So as any bio writer does, I asked the band some questions. Unlike most band dudes, the enthusiastic trio of vocalist / guitarist Kevin Day, bassist Alec McVey and drummer Ray Slowij responded with a pretty well composed account of the band’s story-so-far. Instead of re-telling it, I figured I’d let you read it directly from them. So without further ado, here is the story of Aspiga, by Aspiga.

Kevin: ”Aspiga started off as a side project in early 2006. I had an acoustic guitar, a four-track recorder and my bedroom. The purpose of this project was to mirror the bands that I had been listening to at the time. Bands like Hanalei, Fingers Cut Mega-Machine, and The New Amsterdams all released albums that varied from full band songs to stripped down acoustic performances. These bands wrote folk-pop tunes that were rooted in punk rock. It was refreshing to attempt writing in different ways and depending on just myself to have everything come together.

Although this started as a solo project, I had always wanted to be able to have my friends in and around New Jersey get involved. I thought it would be a great way to play with other musicians and no one would have to have any commitment struggles. Basically, it was a way to jam, record, and play shows, but the cast could change at any time. This is where Ray enters the picture.”

Ray: “I’ve known Kevin for about a solid decade. We met through our separate old bands, which at the time would often play shows together. This is when I was introduced to Kevin and his group of friends, many of whom have helped out Aspiga along our way.

In one of our conversations Kevin presented to me, ‘Hey - I’ve been working on some solo acoustic stuff, and I was wondering if I went into the studio with these songs, would you want to play drums to them?’ I agreed because I always loved doing projects, I enjoyed the company of this very good friend of mine, and I especially liked drumming to styles I was not very accustomed to. Now it’s many years later, and I can’t recall Kevin ever asking me to officially join the band. Remind me to bring that up with him.

Around this time is when I was saying goodbye to everyone and packing my bags to move to California. Over the span of the three years that I lived there, whenever I would come back to New Jersey to visit, Kevin managed to set up a couple of shows. He would play only acoustic in my absence. Every time I came back the amount of shows grew in numbers and eventually became tours. Overwhelmed with missing the East Coast and my friends, I moved back to New Jersey and we attacked Aspiga at full throttle.”

Kevin: ”It’s strange to think that this band operated, did some touring, and recorded while one member was off in California, I was in school, and we didn’t have an official bassist. The music for Tense was written in my bedroom and the lyrics during classes at Rowan University. I recorded demos on my phone and sent them to Ray. On one of his visits, we decided to record these songs. I think we practiced once or twice, went to our friend’s place, and recorded everything. We never intended for that album to really go anywhere further than being burned onto CDs for our friends. For whatever reason, Solidarity Recordings liked the album enough to want to release it. This is what really opened us to some new listeners. I’m still grateful that people liked it enough to want to hear it and come see us.

Two things really pushed me to make Aspiga a full time group: The release of Tenseand my girlfriend dumping me. I had a lot of free time and wanted to throw myself into music. I think it was the best decision I’ve made in the last few years.

A few weeks after the release of Tense and after our first tour behind it, we were without a bassist – there was a bit of a revolving door up to this point. Alec had just started interning with me at Jump Start Records and offered his services. Alec is just an incredible musician and really made Ray and I want to step up our game. He has a great ear and can really add the finishing touches to a song. The three of us played as much as we possibly could. The story for the last two years has been, play shows, write songs, play shows.

Our work has paid off, as we’ve been able to open for some bigger bands, go out on the road a little longer, and work with some great labels. Kat Kat Records has released two albums from us. We also got to work with Jump Start. I somehow convinced Brian from Hanalei that it would be a good idea to do a split with us, which was crazy because Hanalei is one of the reasons that I wanted to start writing acoustic songs.

Now it’s the end of 2012, we’ve played a bunch of great festivals and shows with bands that we’d never thought we’d play with, like Laura Stevenson & The Cans, the Smoking Popes, Crucial Dudes and others, and we have a new album called Every Last Piececoming out on Paper + Plastick in November. We’re already confirming more exciting shows, including a tour with our best friends, Broadcaster. We’re three friends that write songs that we hope will make you feel something.”

Pentimento Stream Final B-Side from Self-Titled LP as Thank-You to Fans

Buffalo-based Pentimento are now streaming the final B-side from their self-titled debut full-length. The track was originally scheduled to stream after the May 7 street date of the band’s forthcoming LP release, but the group and Paper + Plastick Records decided to stream it early as a thank-you to fans who showed so much support yesterday.

Yesterday, Pentimento released its second video from its new album, for the song “Almost Atlantic.” After a great reaction to the song online, Paper + Plastick launched sales for a three-pack of skull heads customized to the variants of Pentimento’s new vinyl release. The skull heads were limited to only 18 three-pack sets, and fans of the punk rock quartet showed immense support. All of the skull heads sold out from the label’s webstore in only one minute!

Hence, the early stream of “The Rain.” This stream comes a couple weeks before the release of Paper + Plastick’s vinyl pressing of Pentimento, so please link to or embed the stream and link to the preorder if you can! Pentimento Releases "Almost Atlantic" Music Video, Sells Limited-Edition Skull Toys

Buffalo, NY quartet Pentimento has released a brand-new music video for “Almost Atlantic,” off their self-titled debut full-length record. This is the second music video from the record, following the video for “Circles” released last year. Check out the video on YouTube.

Pentimento is being pressed to vinyl by Paper + Plastick Records, and the first pressing is going fast. It can be purchased in the label’s webstore. CD and cassette versions of the record can be purchased from Black Numbers.

The band received massive critical acclaim for its latest record, with Alternative Press beaming, “If Pentimento are part of the new school of punk, then there’s a lot to look forward to.”

Additionally, Paper + Plastick will make new Pentimento-themed skull heads available for sale at 5pm today. The skulls are miniature versions of the traditional Paper + Plastick skull head, and will be made available in a three-pack for $40. The resin toys are heavy and high-quality, and the colorways match the water/sun/sand variations of the Pentimento LP. The label is putting out these skull heads in different colorways for every LP it releases this year, and these are the second set available this year - after the black and white mixed After The Fall skull heads. The skulls are limited to only 18 packages.

Ska-punk veterans Less Than Jake announced last week that they will be putting out a brand-new album this fall on Fat Wreck Chords. The label released the following statement on its website:

Looks like the team is officially back! Following the 2012 reissue of the Fat classic Borders & Boundaries and the subsequent EP collection Greetings & Salutations, it only made sense to bring Less Than Jake back into the Fat folds for real. This fall will see a brand new Less Than Jake album on Fat Wreck Chords, their first full length of brand new material since 2008.

As the statement says, the new full-length will be Less Than Jake’s first LP release of fully brand-new material since 2008’s GNV FLA. It will also be the first Less Than Jake release of full brand-new material on Fat Wreck in over 10 years! The band has been writing and demoing new songs in its hometown of Gainesville, FL, for the last few months and will begin recording at the top of May. The new album will be the follow-up to the Greetings & Salutations collection, which is for sale in the band’s webstore.

Additionally, Less Than Jake has added a U.S. run of tour dates to its 2013 schedule. The June dates will be supported by Hostage Calm and Pentimento. Check out the of the group’s tour dates below - which include a current run through Europe.

Tony Sly "Story/Song" Comic Book Released via Paper + Plastick Records

Paper + Plastick Records has released today a very special edition of Story/Song. The newest episode of the comic series, which made its debut recently featuring Flatfoot 56, highlights the music of the late Tony Sly.

Story/Song is a project where comic book writers and artists listen to a song, then create a story around it. The story isn’t a literal interpretation of the song, but something inspired by the lyrics. Story/Song Issue No. 1 was built around the classic No Use For A Name tune “Chasing Rainbows,” which Tony Sly performed many times during his solo career as well.

Usually, Story/Song issues will be accompanied by an exclusive, special version of the song composed and recorded for this project. For this issue, The Swellers vocalist / guitarist Nick Diener recorded a beautiful acoustic cover of “Chasing Rainbows” to accompany the comic book. All physical and digital orders for the book come with the MP3.

Digital PDF copies of Story/Song Issue No. 1 are available now in the P+P webstore for free. The PDF of the book and MP3 of the “Chasing Rainbows” cover will be delivered immediately upon purchase. Physical copies are available for $5 and will ship in the second week of May.

Light Years is proud to announce today its signing to Paper + Plastick Records. The band has released a new song, “Parking Lots,” and a music video along with it. The video can be seen and embedded via YouTube.

Additionally, Light Years has released today the Parking Lots EP, a three-song release that features “Parking Lots,” a song titled “Put Myself Together” and an acoustic version of “Put Myself Together.” The EP is available in the P+P webstore for $2.

“Parking Lots” and “Put Myself Together” are tracks that will be available on Light Years’ debut full-length record, I Won’t Hold This Against You, which will be released via Paper + Plastick later this summer.

Light Years previously released an EP titled Just Between Us in April 2012 via Escapist Records. The band’s rollicking pop-punk sound comes through better than ever throughout the course of I Won’t Hold This Against You, which was produced by Will Yip (The Wonder Years, Circa Survive, Title Fight).

This is evident in first single “Parking Lots,” a super-charged wave of nostalgic lyricism. Lead vocalist Pat Kennedy reminisces about his youth in a way that is relatable to any 20-something. “I’m just letting it go before my past comes crawling back through my front door / I’ll spend the rest of my days and nights just hoping for something more,” he sings in “Parking Lots.” We call it pop-punk for grown-ups.

The band will be hitting the road throughout the spring and summer to support the new LP release. Light Years has already announced a series of April dates with Safe along with a weekend of supporting BoySetsFire. All tour dates can be seen below.

“The Braces is someone’s little brother,” says Less Than Jake drummer and Paper + Plastick Records founder Vinnie Fiorello. “They dove into their older brother’s record collection that had a bunch of mid-’90s Fat Wreck albums, some ’90s D.C. indie rock like the Dismemberment Plan and then whipped it into some modern pop-punk with early Saves The Day influences.”

They tell you in school not to start anything you write with a quote, but Vinnie put it better than we can, so there it is. The Braces is a four-piece pop-punk outfit from Thousand Oaks, Calif., and they play pop-ish punk-ish songs. Their songs have a certain charm to them - I wouldn’t call it sophomoric, but I would say that right away, there’s a tinge of nostalgia when you listen to them. It sounds kinda familiar, but it’s done so damn well that it hits the spot right away. This is the pop-punk band you were looking for in 2013 without knowing you were looking for them.

Two Years is The Braces’ third studio release. It follows a 2009 LP titled I’m Telling Everyone and a 2011 EP called First World Problems, which the group released for free on Bandcamp. First World Problems was enough to get the attention of some people - The Braces were featured on comps put together by the likes of No Sleep Records and Disconnect Disconnect Records - but the eleven songs on Two Years show the band hitting its stride. The record is put together as one holistic thought, as vocalist / guitarist Zack Sekuler explains: “We began writing Two Years about the situations we were dealing with as a band and with our personal relationships during a period of time where everything changed for us.”

The forbidden punk beat is littered all over Two Years, as the band isn’t afraid to amp up the intensity and stray into the blisteringly paced style of the genre. But equally as prevalent on the record are a slew of tempo changes, with songs like the title track and catchy standout “Black Eye Makeup” ranging from slowed-down portions to exploding, massive choruses.

Albany, NY’s After The Fall will be expanding upon a decade-long career of punk rock with the release of its fourth studio full-length record, Unkind, on March 19, 2013 via Paper + Plastick Records.

The band - consisting of vocalist / guitarist Mike Moak, guitarist Tyler Paige, bassist / vocalist Will Savage, and drummer Chris Millington - recorded Unkind in its hometown with producer Tim Lynch. The record was mixed and mastered by The Descendents’ Stephen Egerton.

Serving as the follow-up to the Eradication LP, After The Fall’s newest release showcases a sound with more depth than the band has ever had before. With two other full-lengths under the band’s belt (2005’s Everything and 2009’s Fort Orange), the group has honed and perfected its craft and Unkind proves to be its most impressive work.

“This album was recorded as a four-piece,” Moak says, “which gave everything a little more depth. We’ve been a three-piece for the last four years but Will and Tyler rejoining the band have helped us flesh things out and get their influence in on this album and the songwriting.”

Between impressive guitar work on songs like “Decade,” the album’s closer, and Millington’s consistently relentless drumming presence, Unkind is a thrill ride through 12 tracks that never take a break in intensity.

Taking after the sounds of classic punk power trios, Point of View is an up-and-coming punk rock band out of San Jose, CA. With a punk base similar to old Green Day and NOFX, the group leans toward the Bay Area pop-punk sound and brings a hook-laden attitude to the genre.

After meeting in middle school, bassist Michael Bragg, drummer/vocalist John Wallace and guitarist/vocalist Curtis Wallace began to write punk tunes and even recorded a full-length album in the 7th grade. Another release followed shortly after, but it wasn’t until after those outputs that the band began taking themselves seriously.

The group independently released a full-length titled Sideshow Years in September 2011 that was later re-released by the band’s current label, Hella Mad Records. The album was in the works for five years, with the band creating a DIY, makeshift home studio in a friend’s garage and tracking the entire record on its own. Scott Goodrich mixed and mastered the album.

Considering the DIY nature of the recording of Sideshow Years, the record is surprisingly clean-sounding. While the rugged nature of the band’s sound is prevalent, opener “The On-Going Two Faced Dilemma” provides a crystal-clear bass line to carry the track, bringing back memories of Rise Against and Green Day’s early releases before Point of View kicks in some ska/reggae portions. Meanwhile, tracks like “The F.D.A. Steals Your Personality” show the band’s earnest youth, bringing comparisons of peers Emily’s Army. While horns and reggae influences are present throughout the whole album, the focus is certainly on the punk rock here, with those influences brought in only at times.

Point Of View is now set to release a five-song EP titled Burner on March 29, 2012. Burner sees Point of View continuing its march in catchy old-school pop-punk, with tracks like “Home” providing sing-along parts for fans. The album will be made available via Hella Mad Records.

The title track starts off on a more mellow note for the pop-punk group, showing off their indie / emo influences a bit more. The track follows in the vein of the two previously released tracks from the record, as After The Fall’s driving melodic punk reels in listeners of all persuasions.

Unkind is the Albany, NY-based band’s follow up to the attention-grabbing Eradication LP. The new album is a 12-track effort with an average song runtime of only two minutes per track. But the songs are well thought out and presented in a gripping, holistic matter.

The record is currently available for preorder in the Paper + Plastick Records webstore. The label has added a new version - a black vinyl variant with a limited-edition, hand-screen record jacket - limited to only 50 units.

Pentimento is streaming a never-before-heard B-side from its self-titled record. The track, titled “It Happens To The Best of Us,” can be heard on SoundCloud and it can be embedded on your website.

This stream comes just one weekend after the band announced that Pentimento would be released physically. Paper + Plastick Records is handling the vinyl pressing in the U.S., and all vinyl preorders come with an immediate digital download of two B-sides. All three-pack vinyl orders come with a handwritten sheet of lyrics to one of the songs from the record.

Pentimento Announces Physical Release for Self-Titled Full-Length

Buffalo, NY’s Pentimento will release its self-titled full-length record physically on May 7, 2013. The record, which was released for free on the Internet by the band in November 2012, will get the vinyl treatment via Paper + Plastick Records and see a CD and cassette pressing via Black Numbers. Additionally, Coffeebreath & Heartache will release vinyl in the UK and Ice Grill$ will do CDs in Japan.

The long-awaited physical release of the album comes following a massively positive response to Pentimento after its initial release. The album, which is still available for free download (all fans have to do is send an email to pentimentoLP@gmail.com), was praised by critics and fans alike. The vinyl pressing via Paper + Plastick (link: http://paperplastick.limitedrun.com/products/512187) is available in four different variants. The variants (clear gold for the sun, clear blue with white for the ocean and beige for the sand) play with the themes of the album’s artwork and lyricism. There is also an extremely limited black variant that comes with a hand-screened alternate album jacket.

Additionally, Pentimento is premiering today a high-quality live video of “Unless,” the album’s opener, being played at Mohawk Place in Buffalo. The video is brought to fans by Hate This Films with help from Quiet Country Audio.

We are excited to announce that Pentimento will finally be pressing our debut self-titled record to physical formats and distributing the release with the help of Paper +Plastick (vinyl US), Black Numbers (CD & cassette US), Coffee Breath & Heartache (vinyl EU/UK) and Ice Grill$ (CD Japan).

The flood of support we received following the announcement to give the record away for free in November was nothing short of moving to all four of us, and I couldn’t even begin to imagine a way to explain how grateful we are and always will be. We are ecstatic to be able to finally get the record out on physical formats, to see it finally come to life. Even now, I can’t be sure that I’m explaining myself in a way that will accurately represent what it means to a band like us to have the opportunity to be a part of punk rock, and to have so many incredible people surrounding us to reinforce exactly why we push ourselves to do what we do, despite the adversity.
